This seems obvious when you put it like that :). Nice article!

A good article. I’ve been thinking for some time that moving on a few peripheral players and loanees is likelt to bring in as much (or more in total) than selling Gallagher and/or Chalobah. We may of course sell them too - but a ‘yard sale’ of others at between £5-£25m could surely yield £100m plus.

And I also agree that if we want to becoming a trophy winning/top four competiting club again then we need to buy at the Olise level or above now; not wait for Hutchinson to reach his peak.

My sentiments exactly Fraser

Well stated Luke !!! And we all have to think as to what happens when Kendry Paez turns 18 next spring, and the Club's intentions are to have him in the 1st team, not on loan ? As you've reminded us, with FFP, we can't keep everyone ! Hopefully, we can keep Conor Gallagher ! Let's hope so !!!

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

Exactly Norman, that’s why the likes of Madueke probably depart this summer, a good stop gap but the likes of Estevao and Paez have incredibly high ceilings from the little I’ve seen and the plenty I’ve read!

Thanks. It’s not that you sell it’s who you sell and that has never changed.

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

The problem is the players who have had good seasons or are seen as better prospects will always go for higher fees, if you want to make profits higher the fee the better for the club

Nick Gage's avatar

That’s the club’s decision but if it’s just about money and not success on the pitch we should sell Palmer and Gusto because a lot of the players purchased have gone down in value. Success on the pitch means more money and if you sell your best players you won’t be successful on the pitch. Also with all the financial restrictions this model of buying players and selling on for more is going to be harder to do. It’s fine if we want to be Brighton and win nothing on the pitch but make loads of money. From what I read and see on social media the fans want success and want it sooner rather than later.

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

Never at any stage did I say sell our best players

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

Think you’re missing the jist of my article Nick, the point is that if we are constantly signing young talent it’s impossible for them all to make it at Chelsea, so once they become profitable or in this case extremely profitable you have to weigh up the profit against the likelihood of them making it at the club long term.

Realistically 2 out of 3 “elite youngsters” we sign probably won’t make it at the club and someone like Omari (and Angelo) will struggle further with the likes of Estevao and Paez to join the squad in January.

Nick Gage's avatar

I do appreciate what you are saying and I know most of the so called 'elite youngsters' won't make it and have to be sold on but the bottom line is you need a successful team on the pitch to make this all work. We seem to buy expensive youngsters.

Hi Luke, id give him a go in front of Stirling and Muddy, he showed what he has got last year, however if he was sold to Ipswich I would be happy with that.

Your list of players to be sold is what ManU did for years, give them first team minutes and pass them on, that's what you should do as a club, as long as you have a club that wants then that is. Who wants say Stirling on his wages or Muddy on what he has showed so far, massively overpaid for him. The Egos wont admit they were wrong,

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

It was more of an example list Martin, but you get my jist, it is a sustainable way of making profit each year

Malway's avatar

You are spot on Luke, we need to do something along these lines.

Just to put it on record I would not sell Conor, at least he is available and works his socks off, We are not Interested Chelsea that’s not our DNA

What I don’t see is the great management of shirt sponcers etc where are the record breaking deals, maybe Eggego is not as good as he thinks he is

Mike Harman's avatar

Spot on. We can not hoarde our players. When everyone is fit, where does Hutchinson rank? Behind Mudryk? Behind Noni? Behind Angelo? Behind Sterling? I feel like it's similar to Hudson-Odoi, and where he was in and around the first team when we got astronomical bids for him. But then his value plummeted due to a lack of playing time, and a couple of poor loans. See also Ampadu. Sell for profit. Chelsea FC is a business, the players are the produce.

Umair's avatar

yeah not everyone will make it here... so players will be bought and sold. The problem is the players who should be sold are not being sold as it will be an admittance by the SDs that they mucked up on some of the transfers.

Kris Petrov's avatar

Fair statement. I would still give him a chance given the winger situation we are in. I would give up on Sterling and try to sell him for the sake of 1 season trial for Omari! My point is if we really give enough chances to our top prospects. History knows many examples of missing talents going to other clubs and thriving there.

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

True but the point of the article is we can’t hoard talent, some players will have to be sold regardless, you can’t have a 40 man squad

Kris Petrov's avatar

Totally agree. In this particular one with Omari. I would try everything possible to give him a chamce in first team still given our left wing has suffered the whole season. Just my two cents. But you right, we cannot keep every prospect.

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

I love him and anyone who read my loan reports this season will know I was overly biased about him at times, but he’s just not at the level yet, he needs another year and in that time similar players will improve further along with him, 25m would be an excellent price for him and reluctantly I would have to concede and sell him for that

Kris Petrov's avatar

Yes, 25mil is more than excellent fee.

Ozboy's avatar

Omari has potential for sure. On what I saw he had a way to go to get in the starting 11 at cfc. Loan or sake were the only options if he wanted to play which of course he does.
