I learnt along time ago that immersion in Social Media is a quick way to end up with depression or worse.

For me the people posting reactionary sack Maresca now have no control in their own lives so they seek to control the narrative re the team they “support” some may not even be Chelsea supporters.

When Chelsea’s form was discussed before Xmas I cautioned that there would be a blip which personally I thought would be a couple of games only.

I look for patterns in things so for me the 4 game sequence started with a draw and ended with a draw and I believe we will soon be back to winning ways.

It would seem to me your article has taken a lot of thought and is well reasoned but for the sake of sanity and mental health be like me delete X.

Thanks for that balanced take on the situation which certainly isn’t a crisis. Some fans are just too reactionary but that’s the world we live in. Yes there are issues but they are solvable. Maresca has been really impressive up until the last couple of post match press conferences. We have no given right to finish in the top four we have to earn it.

As is often the case your columns are the voice of reason. Like you I have been horrified by the negativity that we have seen in social media during the Christmas period. No one can deny, including myself, that we’ve hit a rough patch and we’ve not got the results we would’ve anticipated based upon the games leading up to the last four. However, like you I agree that two points could easily have been four, probably six and not unreasonably 10 over that period. We have consistently created chances but just not buried them as we have been doing up until the Christmas period. I am also of the opinion, like you that Enzo has been way more flexible and varied in his format playing than we anticipated prior to the season started and it seems strange that nobody else has picked up the fact that we played a different formation this past weekend with a more formal back four. This is a long-term plan, we are still in a development phase, and yet again I have to use that word everyone hates! Patience!. Some of the negativity has just been beyond belief, including unfortunately some of the comments made on match days through the live chat on this page. I do hope everyone gets behind the team, genuinely supports them as we develop during the coming months, which will not be without further hiccups.
