And unfair on Penders too imo. How does he cope with the rugby scrums from corners? Long throw ins? Much like Gittens and Garnacho last year, they’re on a hiding to nothing. Talents taking two steps back. If we’re all about investing in youth, feels like we have a duty of care to help them succeed (for their benefit as much as ours).
I agree, they’re in danger of messing up again. Repeating mistakes with the GK, another year of Sanchez being decent/bozo moments/losing all confidence and being unplayable for a month. Happens every year. Or throwing a kid in Penders in who isn’t ready (how many young talents have we wasted playing them before they’re ready and they take 2 steps back?).
Midfield also. I assumed one was an absolute given, 2 if Enzo leaves. To go for none is a concern. I get it when people reel off the depth chart, but are we really not getting a controller like Zubi or a powerful ball carrier like Scott “because we have Essugo and Henderson and Lavia will be fit, honest!”. Give me one good friend over 3 unreliable ones, every time.
