When will we admit the current approach is failing? Behdad talking about Chelsea had many red flags, Why Liverpool is our model, Mikel is OTT but he's made great points, News roundups, Much more...
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Wednesday 19th February 2025!
Morning all,
Hope you are enjoying your week so far as we hit hump day!
Our next game comes this Saturday away at Aston Villa in the Premier League’s 5.30pm kick off game. This game has now become HUGE.
Before that though, plenty of content to get through.
I had some help from The Score again today who is back with another banger! He’s been looking at the Liverpool model and how it’s ‘our’ model. It’s time to change the strategy, and Score details all of that in here.
Danny Windsor is back ladies and gents, this time with an article! It’s been a while. But things must be bad if Danny is back and armed with his pen! Speaking of changing strategies and models, Danny is asking when will we admit that our approach is failing and that perhaps EVERYONE else might be right here? Danny’s full and brilliant words in here.
I’m here too, folks! And I have a couple for you today as well.
The first one is on some videos that have resurfaced this week of Behdad Eghbali speaking about Chelsea when Clearlake initially took charge of their stake in the club. There are SO many red flags in these videos, I guess we should have all seen it at the time. You can see why Todd Boehly is so against this strategy. Check those out and my words on it here.
John Obi Mikel has been at it again this week and these are probably his most ranty and passionate words ever on the owners and operations at Chelsea. This man is PISSED, and you can understand why. Some people find Mikel annoying, and I can see why. But he is out there fighting the good fight and voicing many of the same opinions that we all have. I’ve highlighted some of his points here that are actually spot on.
Get all of your latest Chelsea news from across the last 24 hours in the same place here. Covers everything from transfer rumours, quotes, interviews, stats and more.
See you all on the next live blog from around 8.30am but remember I won’t be on here again until after midday and even then it will be on and off as I’m in charge of the boy today!
Peace, Si.

IMO the primary focus of the protests next week at the Southampton game should be on the long term strategy. Chelsea fans should demand that ownership, sporting directors, coaches, and everyone else involved in the club from top to bottom have winning trophies as their top priority. It is all well and good to have an approach to buy young, etc., etc. but it is unacceptable that someone who is part of Chelsea thinks (much less actually says out loud to the media) "we don't have to win this season".
I wouldn't even necessarily call for anyone to get fired or new owners. All we need is for the club to prioritize winning first and foremost. If you do that, then a lot of the other problems should start to resolve themselves.
For example, it would force Maresca to start being more practical and adjust to the situation. Right now he has zero motivation to change his tactics even if they aren't working. There's no downside for him losing now if he can keep pushing his ideas with the hope they will click and he can win at some point further down the road (when?).
It would also obviously change the transfer strategy to shift from always buying to the future to instead focusing on what the team needs right now.
