There is a very strange situation going on around Robert Sanchez and Ben Roberts at Chelsea, with the latter seemingly having a lot of power at the club.
Roberts and Sanchez have a super close relationship, and many believe this is why Sanchez is pretty much untouchable and gets so much protection at the club.
Roberts is Head of Global Goalkeeping at Chelsea now and it’s certainly an odd setup and something off about it all.
Sanchez has simply not been good enough in a Chelsea shirt, even if he can have decent periods. His consistency has never been there, and he’s always been a massive risk. Sanchez lost his number one spot TWICE since he arrived at Chelsea, but the only reason he’s won it back again is because the backup options who he lost his spot too have been even worse than him. Chelsea have well and truly messed up the goalkeeper department for years, and many insiders and pundits see this as their biggest weakness.
Sanchez should now be losing his number one spot for a THIRD time after a terrible performance against Fulham on Monday night, but I doubt he will yet. This decision will be down to Xabi Alonso.
