Sorry Si you’re letting Fernandez and Argentina off too lightly. They need to be called out for what they are a disgrace to the beautiful game. Don’t be complicit to disgraceful behaviour. I would ban them from the next World Cup.

Enzo is a very strong character and in my view an excellent footballer but there is no doubt he has a few rough edges.

Oliver Brown in the Telegraph:

"After all, this was not the first time the midfielder had behaved reprehensibly. It was not even the first time this week. Against England he had announced himself in the semi-final by whacking Elliot Anderson on the back of the head, before celebrating his goal with a gesture to suggest that his critics had too much to say. Topo Gigio, it is called in Argentina, where a player cups his hands behind his ears and invites his adversaries to keep talking. Except in Fernández’s case, they arguably do not talk enough.

This is the man who, in 2024, was mired in a racism controversy when he broadcast a video on Instagram Live showing himself and Argentina team-mates singing a discriminatory chant about France’s players, mocking their African heritage and throwing in a few homophobic slurs.

The Chelsea co-captain further endeared himself to his adopted land before the final, insisting that he had respect for the English “because everybody who cleans and cooks in our house is English”.

Still Roy Keane was probably no different. You need that kind of strength.

I maintain that Enzo embarrassed himself and his club in the World Cup final and is now a liability, ship him out.

Again well said Andy. His and the whole Argentinian squad were a disgrace last night and anti football in the worse possible way. I don’t want him anywhere near Chelsea Football Club. More to the point he doesn’t want to be there either.

I think the reality was that FIFA was totally complicit in what went on from suspended a USA red card and then having quasahs ban doubled for the same offense to allowing the Argentinians to disgrace the tournament and themselfd.

I saw one commentator say the the FA and UEFA should distance themselves from FIFA

FIFA is a totally corrupt organisation and unless they get rid of Infantino and his cronies it will not change and get worse. I heard Trump has told him he wants the US to host every World Cup from now on.

That’s just funny enough to be true.

Yes the more bizarre it gets the more likely it is to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised about anything.
