The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Friday 22nd May 2026!
Morning all,
Welcome to the weekend and the final weekend of the Premier League season. Still a lot to play for and to conclude for Chelsea this weekend.
We’re away to Sunderland on Sunday for the 4pm kick off, and it’s all to play for. I REALLY don’t want Conference League! Sunderland will not be an easy place to go to though and they are still fighting to get into Europe so will be throwing everything at us!
Round up all your latest Chelsea news in general on the lead up to this game in the same place here. I signed off just before all the mad links of the England squad came out. Thomas Tuchel has lost the plot. Levi Colwill was in the squad then he was out of it, Cole Palmer doesn’t make it… Just one Chelsea player apparently in an expected squad that is just WILD. Oh dear…
I had a sourced article out yesterday on the future of Marc Cucurella. You can get all the inside info on that one here.
I think we need to be calm on the over hyping of Jorrel Hato for now. The kid has just turned 20 and although he’s been top lately, I know how quick the narratives change on players and how fans flip flop constantly. Words here.
My stance on any player who actively pushes to leave, whether direct to the club or through his agent, then they MUST be sold. We don’t need passengers, we need brick carriers. Words here.
We keep hearing how Xabi Alonso will be backed this summer by Chelsea. Well, backing Alonso means giving him a top level goalkeeper, which he does not currently have here. Mike Penders is not quite there yet either. Words here.
Have a good weekend, I’ll be back on the site on Sunday - see you all then. Live Discussion thread will be running for the game on the Substack App, and any big news I get before then will be out there too.
Peace, Si.

I would not be surprised if Palmer has been carrying an injury and really does need a proper break rather than running around in the World Cup. Levi’s return to the team might have been 4 weeks too late but with last day of the season on Sunday, some of the named squad are bound to come a cropper and Levi might be a late replacement.
Whilst i hope Tuchel can make the England squad fire at the World cup I suspect there are a few names in there that aren't ready for the big stage.
Cole Palmer it would appear is paying the price for the upheaval at CHelsea this season I'm sad to say but there is a lesson that in future he must be big enough to rise about petty squabbles and give his all.
The one I feel sorry for is Levi Colwell who really should be on the plane even if his minutes have to be managed at the World Cup.
The defense looks weak to be honest Dan Burn not convinced, Maquire not going no tears there (when all else fails drag your man down Maguire). Several other names I've never heard of.
TbH Tommy you play your experimental squad before the cup it helps you decide your best team you don't take it with you.
There I've done my bit England should now go on and win the World Cup just to spite me.
lol
