Sources: Former Real Madrid defender discussed internally at Chelsea

The Blues are looking at defender options

As I have been reporting on here for months now, Chelsea will be in the market for a new centre back in one of the next two transfer windows.

This pursuit is more likely to happen in the summer rather than in January.

Thiago Silva at the moment still looks likely to leave at the end of the season, although that has not yet fully been decided on. Trevoh Chalobah is likely to leave in January, I’d be shocked if that doesn’t happen. And Wesley Fofana is still recovering (very well) from a long-term injury.

Chelsea want deep cover and as I have previously reported here, some at the club believe they could do well to sign a more experienced option at the back to balance out the young players there - especially if Silva does leave which is likely.
