Chelsea tried and failed to sign a new midfielder on transfer deadline week in the summer, and they’ve certainly been left short there now whilst needing to shoehorn full backs into the role to cover it.
It’s unknown why they left it so late in the window to try and sign a top new midfielder, because SPTC Sources had heard for many months that Enzo Fernandez was leaving.
Chelsea sources point to Morgan Rogers as being a Fernandez replacement in terms of creativity and goal scoring, and there is a big belief at the club that Reece James is a top centre midfielder. However, Chelsea did still try to sign another centre midfielder in deadline week, so they knew they didn’t have enough.
