As you will know, Reece James is out of action again after undergoing surgery on a new knee injury last week. James will not be back until around January time, and we all know that even after then, he will struggle to sustain any real stability in his game time and will need to be managed by being rested. Unfortunately, James just appears to be a very injury prone player despite actually enjoying more of a regular run of games in recent times.
But this is not the actual reason that Chelsea are scouting and planning to look at new right backs for next summer - this is more around having another option to play there, or as a wing-back, as well as Marco Palestra and Pedro Neto. And this other option is going to be one they can use especially if they play with the back four. Malo Gusto is expected to depart the club in the summer, there is even a slight chance for January actually, depending on interest coming in. But Chelsea are looking to get another option in for that area in the summer regardless.
It’s future planning, and I’ve heard about some names that have come up as possible options.
