Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders is set to start against Tottenham on Saturday evening after Emi Martinez got injured against Everton and will be out for around three weeks.
It was soon confirmed that the 21-year-old became our youngest ever goalkeeper in the competition on Saturday, beating Lenny Pidgeley’s 21-year-old record.
Penders is now set to become our youngest ever starting goalkeeper in the Premier League, beating the record of Petr Cech, who was 22 years and 87 days old when he started against Manchester United on the first day of the 2004-05 season. Penders will be almost exactly a year Cech’s junior at 21 years, 85 days on Saturday.
It’s going to be a massive moment for the youngster, and one that he will be ready and waiting for.
