Review: Brighton 1 Chelsea 2, 90% say Sporting Directors SHOULD also be under scrutiny, Should Poch stay or go (the evidence)? Praising press conference comments, News roundups, More...
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Thursday 16th May 2024!
Morning all,
Chelsea were in action away at Brighton last night playing out their second to last game of this Premier League season.
We now have a MASSIVE chance to nail down Europa League football next season and even have a chance of finishing 5th still - quite the turnaround in these last four games. We got the chance to see THAT celebration too. Unfortunately my stream had some networking issues to I couldn’t watch a chunk of the game (will be watching back this morning). Thankfully, Luke was on hand to do the match review this time, and it’s a very good one here!
This newsletter is heavily focused around Mauricio Pochettino (articles written prior to the Brighton game just for reference).
The first one is from The Score who has written out an excellent detailed article asking whether Pochettino should stay or go. In this, Score has provided all the positive and negative evidence and arguments for and against Poch, and he’s also given his own verdict. This is a very fair summary here.
I also wanted to take the chance to write something positive on Pochettino, because I truly strive to be balanced on here and not agenda driven. I call things as I see/feel them, and I was REALLY impressed with Pochettino’s comments in the pre-match press conference this week. I think he deserves a lot of respect for the way he spoke and the comments he made - see what I mean by that in here.
Pochettino’s position as Blues boss will be reviewed now very soon after the Bournemouth game on Sunday, but two people who will NOT be under review and under scrutiny is the co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart. This has created a lot of debate, so I put it to the SPTC community on here to decide whether they actually SHOULD be under review as well. And the responses in here are CLEAR as day…
All the general Chelsea news and transfer rumours from the last 24 hours can be found as always, in the same place in yesterday’s live blog here.
Right, join me on the live blog from around 8.30am this morning. I’ll also be jumping on the Podcast later with Jai after missing last week! So look out for that too!
Peace, Si.
