Pre-Season starts now and it’s time to start making strides forward
The season is fast approaching…..
Good Evening Ladies and Gents,
Now is the time to where the business really starts and the games come thick and fast, Enzo Maresca gets to see his squad in match action.
That is important for so many reasons but most importantly it is important that we see glimpses and patterns of Enzo Maresca’s style whilst Maresca feels like the players are receiving his messages and tactics loud and clear.
The deeper we get into pre-season the more we should see his style shine through and the players getting a real understanding of the niches like positional triggers, attacking and defensive movements whilst also feeling the freedom to express themselves to make an impact and grab their starting jerseys.
I personally am someone who really values pre-season and I know not everybody feels the same way but I think it is massively important and also can be really telling to how a style or a formation is implemented for the season ahead.
I expect to see a huge rotation to start with especially in the Wrexham game, that game is at a hideous time for anyone living in the UK but excellent for a lot of our overseas fans so I personally will be rewatching the game Thursday morning when I wake up and then tuning in live to Saturdays fixture v Celtic.
Let’s hope by this time next week we are talking about the glimpses, the patterns and the idea of Enzo Marescas tactics, by no means do I expect us to be flawless, we will make mistakes, we will struggle in certain situations and phases but there should be real glimpses of Enzo Mareca’s ideas shining through and I cannot wait to see that!
How are you all feeling ahead of pre-season?
Thanks for reading!

100% behind what you say, Luke. All I would ask all of our supporters we want to see Enzo’s tactics implemented and start to come through in the playing patterns but let’s not all get uptight and angry should we not have good results and against Manchester City and Real Madrid. This remember who those two clubs are and how more advanced they are in the squad development and quality. They should be what we aspire to, but we’re not there yet and won’t be for sometime.
Pre-season matters for the players and the coach - particularly when a new coach arrives (as the often do at Chelsea).
Personally, I keep an eye on the pre-season games but with a high level of tolerance for performance levels and line-ups.
I think the line-ups in terms of personnel are fairly meaningless until the players still on hols after the Euros and Copa turn up.
I dare say these threads will be filled with fury, frustration and alarm - and reading others’ meltdowns is always fun. But as I say, I won’t be attaching much significance to results.
This squad/coach will still be evolving into the new season - as almost all squads do every year, at every club.
