Player Profile & Scouting: Emmanuel Emegha, Enzo Maresca needing a 'proper 9' against low blocks concerns me, I have a lot of admiration for Liam Rosenior, Long throws are back, Roy Keane is spot on..
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Tuesday 16th August 2025!
Morning all!
I hope you’ve had a good start to the new week. It’s a big one for Chelsea of course as we meet one of our biggest European rivals and nemesis in Bayern Munich in our first game back in the Champions League! I’m excited for this one.
I wonder if we’re going to see some ‘proper football’ from this game! I’ve been covering the reactions of some of the games from the weekend and it had me thinking about modern football on the whole. Long throw-ins are back, and Roy Keane was spot on with his rant about no player being booked in the Manchester derby. Football has evolved so much but I have to admit I don’t enjoy watching games in the higher leagues these days as much as I used to in what I call it’s peak days. You can get my full views on all of that here.
And sticking with the ‘proper’ theme now. Enzo Maresca has said that against low blocks, he needs a ‘proper 9’ up top and admits that Joao Pedro is not that. With Liam Delap injured, and Marc Guiu not necessarily a ‘proper 9’, it concerns me that he says he needs one to break down low blocks. Get the full story on that here.
Some Strasbourg bits now then because it was confirmed over the weekend that Chelsea are signing one of their strikers, Emmanuel Emegha, in the summer of 2026. He looks good and ticks a lot of boxes. You can get my opinion on him in my full player profile and scouting report here.
Emegha has seen the Strasbourg fans completely turn on him over the weekend with chanting and banners. It’s a massive over reaction and his manager, Liam Rosenior, has rightfully defended him in some public comments made here.
And as always, you can find all of your latest general Chelsea news from across the last 24 hours in the same place here. This covers everything you need to know in the wonderful world of Chelsea.
See you all on the next live blog from around 8.45am today on the home page!
Peace, Si.
