I also think Liverpools interference had an effect on Monaco’s decision thinking they would pay the full price next transfer window so they pulled the plug.
I think the only way I would have rated this window a 10/10 is if we signed 3-4 more players. Additionally, the likes of Gittens, Gusto, Neto would be off on permanent deals and/or loans.
-1-2 new starting level midfielders (DM and box to box)
-1 other solid starting level CB option
-1 new versatile attacker that can compete to start
Sign a replacement before he goes and it drives Man City’s bid down
Try to sign someone after he goes and it inflates the price of whoever you want to replace him
And you can’t line up a replacement too early because then the selling club and player is waiting around for something they’re not sure is going to happen, which is a terrible way to do business because they need a replacement of their own.
The reality is this was always going to go late because it was on Man City and Enzo’s timeline. Blueco almost threaded the needle perfectly. If it wasn’t for Monaco’s stupidity, they would’ve handled a tricky situation as well as they could’ve.
It was a good window but it’s like building a house and not putting a roof on. Eventually the rain is going to get in. A couple of injuries in midfield and we have serious problems.
I think it's only the current injury concerns that have made deadline day a real downer. If Caicedo and Henderson were both fit and firing, I'd probably be pretty comfortable waiting for January. The numbers are there when everyone is fjt. Just nervous with how injuries have tanked our squad over the last five years.
Yesterday was hugely frustrating, but overall I give the window an 8-8.5/10. Xabi was very well backed and we brought in some top top players. Getting the deadwood gone went far better than anyone could’ve predicted. If we can keep the midfielders fit then I think we could be well in the mix at the top come January.
I have calmed down now to be fair 😂I mean you leave things to last minute anything can go wrong overall squad is so much better and we have got rid of a lot of crap so have to be happy 😂
If we just can stay clear of injuries i rate that squad. No player feels wrong looking at that, only thing i would change in terms of balance is one less winger/wingback and one more midfielder…
we have come a long way in terms of squadbuild. Our best window under this ownership.

Enzo put the club in an absolute lose-lose here

Any chance that Blueco hat comes on if we get Wharton and Scott in the next 2 windows?😂
