I'm tired of the drama. Just get Chelsea winning again!
The off field drama & social media meltdowns about it are exhausting
Another day, another drama in the soap opera that is Chelsea Football Club. I’ve supported this club since the late 80s and one thing which never changes, is Chelsea’s relationship to drama and chaos. Its almost part of the DNA of our club. We can’t escape it for very long, whoever the owner, manager or squad.
In the 1970’s Dave Sexton, the manager who’d won the FA Cup and Cup Winners Cup, was sacked and then reinstated in the same day, which ultimately led to the sale of the legendary Peter Osgood. In the 1990s there was constant drama between Ken Bates and Matthew Harding, may he rest in peace.
We finally won our first trophy in 26 years in 1997, and 9 months later Ruud Gullit, the manager who won it was sacked in dramatic circumstances. We became the dominant force in England with back to back PL titles, only for the manager who did it, Jose Mourinho to suddenly depart out of the blue in dramatic circumstances.
We won the Champions League in 2012 and sacked the manager who did it only 5 months later. We finally signed a world class striker in 2021, only for him to alienate himself from the whole fanbase and club. We won the Club World Cup and got club of the year, only for us to be sanctioned mere weeks later and almost go out of business.
And now, we finally get to the end of a busy transfer duty and can focus entirely on football, and we hear our owners don’t get on and one, Clearlake Capital, wants to buy out Todd Boehly, the person who led the takeover in the first place.
Drama, chaos and Chelsea. It never changes.
People are having meltdowns like something is suddenly going to change at the club. Clearlake Capital have been the majority owners all along, and have been the most influential people at the club in the last 18 months. Todd Boehly stepped back over a year ago, and although he still has influence and gets to sign off on decisions, it's Behdad Eghbali who is now overseeing the day to day, what we have now is Clearlake Chelsea.
The social media reaction to things is almost as bad if not worse than the drama at the club. Over-reactions, rewriting history, making wild assumptions, shouting, screaming, forming agenda. Its exhausting and it achieves absolutely nothing. We’re all entitled to express our views, but the overreaction and meltdowns aren’t necessary, and just wear everyone down.
People talk about “Boehly signings” and “Clearlake signings”, which is just a ridiculous fallacy. Especially as a lot of players we’ve signed are actually hugely talented, and some have performed for us. Even more so as neither would be selecting the signings if they got full control.
Behdad is clearly more like Roman Abramovich in his approach to managers. He’s been behind most sackings so far. Todd is far more patient and was reluctant to make a change, back to Graham Potter and Pochettino.
For me though, I’m tired of the drama. I don’t mind an element of drama, that’s who Chelsea are, but its gone too far now, and for too long.
I think most fans would like to get the owners in a room and get them to sort their stuff out, and focus on doing whats best for Chelsea.
I don’t want drama with ownership, I want calm, stability, consistency and success. I think a lot of Chelsea fans are tired of the constant drama behind the scenes and so many changes, we just want to start winning again, and to have an ownership we can trust, who have the clubs best interests at heart, and wants to win trophies.
The drama needs to come to an end as soon as possible. I think most Chelsea fans are done with the drama. Just get us winning again.
The Score

The Score. As is often the case you speak my mind. Drama behind-the-scenes is not going to disappear overnight but what doesn’t help it is exactly what you highlight, the overreaction with a complete lack of knowledge that we see on the airways and social media. Every stupid comment on TV or in the media is reacted to.
A lot of it is knee-jerk reaction with a lack of knowledge and sometimes basic understanding of a situation of this nature. Was you’re 100% right that everybody is entitled to their opinion? The reality is whether we like it or not we need to sit back let the business people work it out and let the situation resolve itself one way or the other.
When there is an outcome we can then react to that situation having much greater knowledge but for now I do genuinely believe the best thing most supporters can do is not find the flames and give others the opportunity, to utilise that against us.
