Interesting Luke, our squad is far too small in height and we know Enzo and Moises does not seem to work maybe this set up will help? I hope it’s not slow build up boring it will be found out and the midfield bypassed
Stievie Holland when we beat Peps Barca, Tommy T when we beat Citeh even ETH figured it out 😂 I do hope he have more in his thoughts
Sorry Luke, late to the party on this article due to travel. if we did buy Sesko would Jackson not take up the lift wing role. I would however prefer your option of Eze if obtainable.
There’s not a chance this is correct. That might be a team with the least aerial presence I have ever seen. There are 2 players there who can head the ball (Fofana and Colwill). We would get destroyed at set pieces.
That’s why this isn’t my 11 Mitch, the jist of this article is to get a shape and formation across to people who may not understand Maresca’s shape or tactics so far using players we currently own, I would upgrade at least 4 if not 5 players in this 11.
Well people pick teams all the time but rarely get them right where The Chelsea are concerned. Still I quite like that team however it's picked on the basis everyone is fit. On that basis I personally would play Nkunku instead of Mudryck and Chukwumeka in the attacking midfield role.
I really want Olise to fit in this system somehow. How is the chase for him going? Any progression or update since Fab said both us and United are pushing.
Hi Luke, what is your preference for Eze based on? I agree they’re both fabulous attacking talents - but what do you feel separates them? I’m genuinely intrigued to know your thoughts on this.
Purely based on Marescas system and the ability for Palmer to flourish, I like Eze from the left but the fact he can play both there and in the 10 at a top level, I’m splitting hairs to be honest and overall Olise has the higher ceiling for me, would love both if being greedy but just feel Eze ever so slightly fits the system better, he can also be deployed as an 8 as his defensive work and work rate is really good
We definitely need an extra body there mate, just not necessarily a starter (if everyone is fit) this article was based around my best possible 11 of current players and how to upgrade that 11, Tosin from Fulham would be an extremely shrewd piece of business in my
mind.
Would love Trev to stay, increasingly unlikely though
Whilst I feel Trev is a more than competent CB - at best, he’s squad depth for me, and never going to be a first eleven pick. My issue with him, is when he’s playing well you can definitely rely on him, but he reminds me of Zouma - inasmuch as he has the propensity to lose focus during matches. It’s these moments when he mentally switches off that we find ourselves in trouble. Top class CBs don’t ever do this.

Conor??
Very Nice Luke. Nice take on things. Pre-Season would be interesting. Also I am curious how Lavia fits into this..
Latvia would be Enzo rotation

Agreed, would love to see a lot more of Carney this season. 🤝

Si has released one today, prefer Eze for this system personally

Love Olise though, he’s going to be incredible
Fantastic article, Luke. Romano speculated that we may need 1 or 2 centre backs; assume to replace thiago and the other if Chalobah leaves (I assume).
Personally, I think Trev would thrive in this system given his excellent passing so I hope he digs his heels in about staying.
But you've not mentioned the need for a centre back to come in so I wondered if you think that we're OK in that department?

Never hurts to have adequate backup
Looks a really good 11, mate 👍
Great post, Vivek - some really useful insights in here! 👏
