Help us Xabi Alonso. You're Chelsea's only hope.
Good riddance to an awful season and those responsible. Time to back Xabi Alonso.
Well, that shocking season is finally over, and good riddance. For like the 10th time this season, I’m saying I’ve never felt ashamed of my football club. Everyone at the club, owners, directors, coaches, managers, players, everyone, should feel utterly ashamed of themselves. They’ve turned this proud club into a figure of mockery, a joke, the club everyone laughs at and looks upon with disdain.
We have a bunch of players, several of whom thought they were gods gift to football because they’d won the least important European trophy and a 7 game knockout competition 12 months ago. Many of them are entitled, up their own backsides, many thinking they’re better than they actually are. Showing no commitment to the badge or to the fans. Giving up every time they go behind. Not turning up against teams they deemed “inferior”. Absolutely pathetic. Many of them - with some exceptions - are embarrassments to the badge.
This isn’t harsh, or gaslighting, its just the truth. It’s time for the players to man up and take responsibility. Or just leave.
Against Sunderland, even a draw would have ensured 7th place and Europa league football. We only needed one point more in the last few games to do it. But like everything this season, we failed.
We didn’t even TRY to win. That is an absolute disgrace. Its not just poor performance, its completely unprofessional. Its amateur.
The players gave up as soon as we went behind, walked around the pitch slowly, made dumb errors, faux, entitled childish anger and aggression, and we got another dumb red card - our 11th of the season including Maresca, a new record. Wesley Fofana, one of the embodiments of this awful attitude, who needs to be number one out the door, making another dumb decision and getting himself off, letting down the team and the fans, again.
My 79 year old dad, a Chelsea fan, can barely walk at this point in his life, and he’d have made more effort than a lot of these players.
Every time you think this shambolic embarrassment of a squad can’t get any worse, they do. Some of these players think they’re entitled to Champions League football, well I can tell you, pretty much no one deserves it this year, with maybe a couple of exceptions. If they think they’re waltzing into a big club like they own the place, they may be in for a rude awakening. Because they aren’t as good as they think.
I’m aware this squad has played way too much football in the last two seasons, including internationals, with only two weeks off. Fatigue, mental and physical, is an issue. As was low confidence and some poor coaching (under Liam Rosenior especially). I warned last year it would impact us this year.
However, not even I thought it would see us drop to 10th. The absurd thing is, 8 more points and we’d be in the Champions League. It would only have taken us to beat Nottingham Forest, and one of the teams in the 5 in a row defeats, and win against Burnley at home - 3 different results - and we’d have finished in the top 5.
But maybe, on reflection, that would have papered over the cracks, Not getting Europe at all means the Sporting Directors have nothing to cover up their total and complete failure. They can’t say we got European football. They can’t make excuses. This is entirely on them, and if they had any sense of integrity, decency or responsibility they’d resign with a written apology.
But they won’t. They have no shame. No concept of responsibility. No decency or integrity, they’re just here for their own glory and career - no wonder this mentality has seeped into the players. The example of blaming everyone else, being entitled, comes from the top of the football structure. The level of incompetence it takes to spend £1.6b on a squad and it finish 12th, 6th, 4th and 10th and lose two domestic cup finals, is staggering.
It’s utterly embarrassing that these people are still in jobs. It’s gross incompetence on a scale I’ve rarely seen in football.
And still, zero accountability. It’s almost like we could get relegated and they’d still keep their jobs, still keep blaming everyone else but themselves, like the cowards and losers they are. I’m so so angry with what they have done to our football club, and they’re getting away with it, AGAIN.
God knows what our new manager Xabi Alonso must make of them. He’s got more knowledge of how to win and build a winning club in his tiny finger than Winstanley and Stewart have in their entire bodies combined.
Any football club serious about winning, removes Winstanley and Stewart, and brings someone elite in immediately. Maybe someone on Xabi’s recommendation, who can work with him on rebuilding this club.
Because his job is not just rebuilding the team, but the club. It’s not just the team that’s a shambles, the whole men’s football club is a complete mess. There’s no culture of winning, responsibility, accountability, work, courage or fighting for the shirt. We’re not a high performance operation. Fans have very little connection to this team or the club right now. That HAS to change under Alonso.
Xabi Alonso is what gives me hope for Chelsea right now. He is an elite, world class football coach and tactician. He is a winner and a leader who’s won it all as a player, and won as a manager, playing for the biggest clubs, working under the best managers in the game. He knows what a winning culture is meant to look like, and how elite, successful football clubs are run.
He now has the opportunity to impose himself on Chelsea, and bring this elite culture back to the club. No one at Chelsea can speak to him on football or winning, he’s the biggest football authority at the club and the best football mind, by a country mile. And importantly, he has equal power as the Sporting Directors now.
Any player - any player, literally - who wants to leave, who thinks they’re bigger than the club or any other reason, should be sold. And if we can’t sell, loan, and if we can’t loan, put them in the bomb squad.
With one game per week next year, try to use largely Cobham players as squad players. the likes of Jesse Derry could even be used as a rotational player, then get 4-5 players who WANT to be here, with the right character, mentality and obviously who are talented enough to be immediate starters in the positions we need. It doesn’t need to be superstars, just the right players.
Build new foundations, so we can get top 3 or 4 and win a trophy next season, then next summer invest big in the squad with Champions League to take it up a level, and build from there.
This rebuild is going to take years, no instant big success. But it’s better to do it well than do it quickly.
Trust Xabi Alonso, let him rebuild the club and the team to get us back where we should be. Bring in talented players who care about the club, about the fans and are willing to fight for the badge, players who’ll fight for the club, and never give up.
Hopefully now, we’ve reached that rock bottom (fingers crossed). So it’s time to let Xabi Alonso rebuild this club from the ashes of the failed project, and begin the path to get Chelsea back where we should be again. The club and the fans need to fully back him, give him time, let him do his job HIS way. To me, that’s the only path back to the top for Chelsea now.
The Score

Build a squad like Lampard did using Cobham, these are the kids coming through who have been at the club for a long time before this ownership. BlueCo out
Just wondering how many more of these club rebuilds must we endure?
