Moises Caicedo is set to join Chelsea after a £100+15m package was agreed with Brighton. The Ecuadorian midfielder will undergo his medical today (Monday) and sign an 8+1-year deal.
Caicedo will become a British transfer record signing since about half the add-ons are understood to be quite easily gettable. Chelsea argue they’ll end up paying something similar to the Enzo fee (£107m) and no more than Liverpool offered, although Brighton sources maintain they’ll get the whole lot if Chelsea qualify for Europe since all the rest of the add-ons are appearance based.
The Caicedo saga was crazy. Liverpool fought until the end having tabled a surprise £111m offer, which not only helped get Brighton an incredible price, but forced Chelsea to go above their original limit. Remember Chelsea’s first offer this summer was £60m, so £115m is a big jump up from that.
