Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at West Ham (albeit only thanks to Tomas Soucek’s world-class save) means it’s just two wins in 14 Premier League games for Chelsea.

Such a run is clearly not good enough for a club like Chelsea and Graham Potter might not even still be in a job if Roman Abramovich was still in charge. But that’s a good thing. It shows the new owners have a different and more patient vision.

There’s been so much change at the club – from board through to playing level – that perhaps some expect a more cut-throat approach given the run of form. Yet Potter is safe for now because he’s seen as the right strategic, personality and football fit. That’s tough to find in a coach and necessary given the club’s long-term project.
