Enzo Maresca picks out 'experience' as 'huge difference' between Chelsea and Bayern, Some of these players are hungry & deserve minutes, How Maresca is growing on me, Marc Cucurella's impossible job..
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Friday 19th September 2025!
Morning all,
We’re at the weekend again and the Chelsea games are coming in thick and fast with the UCL being back in the week. I don’t know why, but I have some concerns for our game at Old Trafford against Manchester United this Saturday afternoon in the 5.30pm kick off in our next Premier League game.
First thing is first, and you can round up all of your latest and general Chelsea news from across the last 24 hours in the same place here.
I have more reactions from our defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night now.
Pat Nevin was on the commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live and he was making some observations on Marc Cucurella, Michael Olise, and Bayern’s right hand side threat. Some good comments in here as well as my view on them.
Enzo Maresca is actually growing on me a lot with his mentality, how he is carrying himself, and his comments in public. I have some words on that here. I’m still in the minority I think with some of my views on Maresca, but there is a lot that I am praising him for in this one.
I also think Maresca was spot on for highlighting the ‘huge difference’ in experience between Chelsea and Bayern and for me, this was one big reason why they beat us this week. Comments from myself and Maresca here.
One thing I want to see from Maresca now though is picking some players who have been in some good form and need some starts and some minutes now. Where on earth is Josh Acheampong? He’s a superb player and has done more than enough to get some starts and more game time. Play players on merit is what I love to see. Words on that here.
See you all back on the site on Sunday where I will review our next game. I’ll have the live discussion thread on the Substack App chat section for the game on Saturday too. Have a great weekend all.
COME ON CHELSEA!!!!
Peace, Si.

Perhaps nous, home advantage and a decision to give only a yellow card were the key differences.
Kane was clever and drew Caicedo in, but we gave two of those goals away by buckling to the press, which we shouldn't have done and haven't done for a while. I think key players just played poorly. Our centre back partnership was 26 and 27. We have a good sprinkling of seasoned internationals now, Caicedo, Enzo, Cucarella, Neto. I'm not really buying it as the centre backs were poor all game and Enzo was MIA, again.
