Chelsea show concerning inconsistencies in 2-1 defeat vs Sunderland, Enzo Maresca: 'We weren't good enough', Paul Merson: 'This team is too young', Pat Nevin: 'I blame decision makers & not Maresca'..
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Monday 27th October 2025!
Morning all,
Hope you had a good weekend away from Chelsea at least! The Blues didn’t provide us with much to be happy with on the pitch, unfortunately, with a home defeat against newly promoted Sunderland.
It was a poor performance and an even poorer result. You can see some stats, video highlights, and my reactions on the game in full here.
Enzo Maresca said after the game that the performance was just not good enough, and you can read every word he said in his post-match press conference here.
Paul Merson, known for his hard-hitting and sometimes extreme Chelsea opinions, reacted to the game here. He was unhappy with two players in particular and points out the fact that this team has just been built too young.
Pat Nevin was a bit more measured with his reactions to the game here. But he does not pin any blame on Enzo Maresca and is instead pointing his finger towards the decision makers at the club who did not provide Maresca with what he wanted/needed in the summer. Now we are seeing those mistakes play out.
The Blues News Report can be found here, covering all your latest general Chelsea news from Sunday. Covers any further reactions to the game and everything in between.

Think Maresca is getting off lightly. He picks the team, despite the shortfalls in the squad & injuries it's still a good squad that would be the envy of many top managers. Wolves & Tottenham away this week, if they go badly things will start getting interesting again. Remember the reception Maresca got from our fans at half time at Fulham away last season before Tyrique & Neto bailed him out. It won't take much for the fans to turn again.
