Chelsea set for defensive rebuild? How anyone could disagree with Carragher on Chelsea project is beyond me, Rosenior's setup compared to Bielsa's, Difficult start one, bench one, drop one, More....
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Wednesday 21st January 2026!
Morning all,
It’s a Champions League match day for Chelsea and the return of one of my favourite ever centre backs, David Luiz! What a player he was in his prime, and what a character he was to have around. Chelsea face Pafos tonight at Stamford Bridge in the 8pm kick off.
Chelsea may well be set for a big defensive rebuild in the next two transfer windows. A look here at what I expect to happen and how I believe our defensive back line will look like come the end of summer 2026.
Now, Jamie Carragher has been spitting facts this week. I hate that I find myself agreeing with Carragher so much. What have you done to me, Chelsea!? First of all, he’s literally pointed out the most obvious flaw in this project once again here. I don’t know how anyone could even try and disagree with this. Each to their own though, of course.
The next one is Carragher analysing Liam Rosenior’s tactics against Brentford. He’s honed in on the obsession of only playing through the middle and the extreme man to man marking. He’s compared it to Marcelo Bielsa. I’ll let you decide if that’s a good thing or not. But for me, there’s a concerning lack of flexibility already. A great video here.
After the easy start one, bench one, drop one earlier this week, I’ve tried to provide you with a tougher one to take part in here.
As always, round up all your latest Chelsea news in general from across the last 24 hours in the same place here.
See you all on the next live blog from around 8.45am on the home page today.
Peace, Si.
