Let's keep our feet on the ground and remember this Spurs team is very poor. But, if we can beat Brentford today, a team that usually seems to know exactly how to play against us, then that will be a very good sign for the remainder of the season.

Hi Luke

Got to say i wasn't impressed with Gusto, a 6 at best for me.

I thought Son done him time & time again in the first half

He also gave a lot of loose balls away as well.

I just don't think he can play the inverted role.

Cucurella was a lot more secure on the left.

It's interesting how that last chance for Spurs came down the left, when Gusto was moved in front of Cucurella after the subs had been made.

Still, always a pleasure beating those mugs!

It's been great on Talksport tonight, their deluded fans ,are all crying about last night!

Lovely!🙂

Darren good comments about Gusto I think Luke had his beer goggles on.

This is copied from Sofascore Darren;

Malo Gusto v Tottenham:

👌 74 touches (=🥈)

🔑 2 key passes (=🥇)

👟 47/52 accurate passes

🤺 3/4 ground duels won

🚀 6 clearances (=🥇)

🧲 2 interceptions (=🥇)

🚷 0 times dribbled past

📈 8.0 Sofascore Rating (🥇)

Star man in Chelsea's 1–0 win! 💫

An underrated performance from him.

Cheers Luke

The beauty of stats.

How many of the 47 passes were forwards.

2 key passe in 90 minutes?!

Offered nothing attacking wise.

Son had him on toast a few times.

When Oderbert was one on one with Cucurella, I wasnt worried.

Son v Gusto I was. Backing off into the box, his speciality.

As for Starman?

Not even close to Caciedo, followed by Cucurella, Enzo, Trev...

That's the view from my Sofa.

You get my drift Luke.🙂

Gusto was better than he has been BUT, that wouldn't have hard to do.

I am still basking in the fact we beat the scum yet again.

Don't think he starts v Brentford, though, do you?

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

I agree with parts, but what can’t speak can’t lie.

All I’m saying he was better than he has been and the be of our better players on the night.

2 key passes, the most in the entire game….

big up guys! seems like you had a good time and Si was able to get a shirt signed off by Reece for Solly! Any interesting convo with Tuchel we should be aware of? lol

Hopefully we can get wins against Brentford, Ipswich and Fulham now.... would lessen the burden to win games in May... plus all our top 4-5 rivals are playing each other most of the week so we have a good chance to build a cushion if we win our games.

For the summer just hope we are sensible for once! Get another CF, LW, LB, CB, bring back Petrovic (if there is no clear upgrade available) & integrate Lesley and Santos. Send Lavia on loan somewhere less intense so he can build up his fitness.

No more sideway moves and no more project players for these positions... plz!

Great review Luke and the atmosphere was better than we’ve had for many games even though it’s always up for Spurs. It had a positivity about it.

Well it’s Worth here are some of my review/comments along the same lines of your own above,, Excluding those that I didn’t have any think positive or negative to say

Enzo Maresca - there was really positive ideas last night and he showed what a good coach you can be, setting up the team differently and accounting for the weaknesses in the opposition. I also liked his pragmatic approach at the end of the game to look up shop in the way he did. To be fair, the team showed an improvement in game management as well.

Malo Gusto - 100% his best game of the season and show signs of the player we saw last.

Trevoh Chalobah - excellent all night long, solid, won balls in the air and distribution was good. Loved his run at the end of the game.

Levi Colwill - there’s definitely a great footballer in there, but we’re still not seeing it 100%. I like the fact that he knows his own failings and definitely likes playing for Enzo.

Marc Cucurella - good defence and helped the overload on the left that gave Cole Palmer space

Enzo Fernandez - had an excellent game, surprised to see him taken off when he was, but maybe due to international games. Needs to attack those spaces in the box more often as scoreboard goals

Moises Caicedo - easy, one word does it-unbelievable. Without doubt man of the match and grows in stature week after week.

Cole Palmer - look fresh and inventive and back to something like his best. Nice to see him get an assist. The next goal is not far away.

Nico Jackson - perhaps you don’t know what you’ve got until you don’t have it. Jackson last night created so much difficulty for what I supposed to be two of Spurs is better players. He worked hard and will be better for that 80+ minutes. He also helps Cole Palmer and they are excellent together on the pitch.

Another thing slipping under the radar is we are conceding a lot less

caicedo has been incredible but I'm not sure he has been our resounding POTS. Its so understated how important cucurella has been. Mostly locks up his winger every game but its not even just that. The help he adds to the attack is insane and was so integral to our early season scoring. Look i'm not saying caicedo shouldn't be pots, im just saying cucurella is heavily in that debate

Darian's avatar

also would like to mention enzo, maybe not pots but so underated by us chelsea fans

As a critic of Jackson and his wastefulness, he deserves credit his efforts last night. He certainly put the wind up Spurs. Is he a future goal machine like Drogba or Jimmy. Don’t think so but he’ll always be a handful. Neto can’t be played unless it’s wide on the left. I felt the boss handed the initiative too much to Spurs with the second half subs and we nearly paid the price with Son’s chance. A great result though and a fighting (sometimes literally!) performance. Crowd rating out of 10? 11!

JoeW's avatar

I know that it has been said many times before, but I feel that Jackson will be more like his namesake Anelka than DD or JFH. The only thing with that is that he needs a partner up top (or to play wide).

Mike's avatar

I was thinking a bit of Anelka when I posted this, but didn’t include him so I agree fully with what you say. The club hasn’t helped by dawdling over signing a top striker to help NJ.

Jon's avatar

Also, mad jealous of you guys meeting TT!

Jon's avatar

I liked seeing Gusto have more freedom and thought he did well defensively, but he was woeful on the ball, especially in the first half. So many misplaced passes and some shocking crosses. Hopefully he can work on that, might be punished by a better side.

No more words for Caicedo. Definitely living up to the price tag now, and he seems to be working on his self control with this ban hanging over his head. The same happened to Nico last season, so long may it continue.

Andy Setterfield's avatar

Spot on Jon … Gusto pass after pass went wayward to straight to a spurs player.. if that was his best game heaven knows how bad the others were.

Ozboy's avatar

If sancho has gone on the outside of his man all season I’d be surprised. He is so easy to defend just wait till he goes inside then send middy over to block that. He is not being coached to take the required risks.

Billy's avatar

I don't think he has the pace to beat a man on the outside...

Ozboy's avatar

Maybe, maybe not, we’ll never know if he never tries. And it’s not just pace alone, far from it. Right now he’s as predictable as traffic light. If he goes on the outside he creates doubt.

Peter W.'s avatar

Great summary Luke, fair to say it was the best atmosphere at the Bridge in a good while. Almost as if the long break allowed everyone to reset a little. Good thing we won it gives both the team and the supporters some positive momentum.

Any idea how bad the Wes and Lavia injuries are ? It’s going to be a long run in without any any rotation

Luke Rushbrook's avatar

No idea mate I'm afraid. Simon is checking in to find out but nothing back yet.
