At some point individual club streaming will come about to reach all of the global fan market, in fact Todd is literally banking on it. Buying your Dodgers content $82 a month on YouTube about same on Fox
The way the UK is going I recommend Nord Vpn for every use, get yer data sorted incogni cleans your data up, if you want to know more just ask me
There are 2 viable options. You keep the overall package as it is, but you introduce one or better still, both of these options.
1, Clubs are given option to sell direct to their fans, so you buy a season ticket and you get every game, home and away.
2, The powers that be make it mandatory that at least 1 Premier League Game a week is shown live on a free to air channel, or better still, each team must appear on a FTA channel playing in 2 home games, that's 40 games FTA a season.
The Premier League and clubs set the price - the clubs charge a fortune to fans in the stadium and don’t see why TV fans shouldn’t also be charged a fortune. Sky etc add their margin and pass the bill on. If you want cheaper football, put a salary cap on players of £2k a week and everything becomes cheaper including the quality of the football.
I cannot disagree with where you’re coming from Si but unfortunately I think the horse has bolted. To some extent we are all party to the process and where we have ended currently. We have enjoyed the best league for many years with the best players and that has to be financed somehow. If we want a reduction in our monthly cost then I suspect we have to expect a drop off in the quality of our league as well as unfortunately I don’t think they’ll get twice as many viewers for half the price as you have proposed.
1000% agree. Well said Si. Unfortunately all the Networks are greedy bas****s and could not care less about anything except obcene profits. And let’s not forget also de federations or ruling bodies (UEFA, FIFA, etc.) are also to blame. Probably the root cause of the problem.
Well said Si there are real issues with the way football is going. I’ve given up trying to go to Stamford Bridge it’s just too complicated and so expensive and that makes me sad and it carries a lot of memories from going with my dad. For me there are also problems on the pitch because too many games just aren’t good to watch.
I would much rather watch my football/sport via the official streams (sky and tnt), but I will not spend £70pcm on the privilege. An MLS or NBA style pass would make it so much better. But that will never happen. I don't think that the CMA would allow it as it would cause a monopoly.
A VPN/firestick also allows you to watch different pundits, such as the CBS Champions League coverage... or so I have been told...
Too little too late I'm afraid. Which is line with most things in this country. Every service has been sold to the highest bidder while the trickle down economy resembles a can't pay someone else will society. The best thing to do is simply not to buy, not to go to games, not to buy sponsors products and so on. But good luck getting buy in on that.
fwiw I dont think prices will continue to rise too much more domestically. Corporate hospitality wise is where i expect some more increase and more diversive revenue streams e.g. concerts summer sports etc. Maybe the bridge can bring back greyhound racing.
If you want proper football so to speak then local and non league is where it is at and more young people will be attracted to that market. 3pm saturday games then watch PL before after on TV. The quality even in NL South is akin to league football.
Unfortunately we live in a capitalist society where the primary movers are profit via exploitation of the means and mode of production. Football is the worst of capitalism in a nutshell. Still, was at a gig at Wembley Arena on Saturday night. They were selling a deal on double rum and cokes....save up to £9.30. How much was it after the discount i hear you ask? £16.80!
Here here Si. Very well said. Eventually they will make a "Premflix" and sell it directly to consumers and cut out the middle man. Just bleeding sky and TNT dry first whilst they set it all up. Any way, they can't crack down on the illegal fire stick users if they use a VPN.
I understand where you come from, but what you have to remember you’re not comparing like this like. Friends of mine in the US tell me that the price for signing up to watch the NBA, AFL or MLB (US preferred sports) are also ever increasing in the same way. That is a more direct comparison than the purchase of major league soccer or access to the Premier League.
Here in the US prices also go up and still fairly expensive but still managable. Firesticks help though and I don't see that as a bad act nowadays as everyone wants watch their team obviously.
In Bulgaria we pay something like £10 per month and in this price are included all the PL and CL games so think about that...

great article. The pricing in the UK is a disgrace. People in US and other continents can watch all games at a fraction of the price people in UK pay.

yes, that's a fair comparison.
I was just comparing the football.. being a biased football fan 😂
I totally understand that, we always all look internally. My comment was not meant to be a criticism just another viewpoint.
