Coming back to the podcast between Colwill & Broja for me they shouldn't be having fun they are paid an enormous amount comparatively to win games not to have fun.
I want to see serious attitudes and extra training albeit most of which needs to be in the classroom drilling into them what to do on the pitch.
Thanks for the comment Andy, love seeing peoples opinions!
I couldn't disagree much more, but that's Football, they are human beings for starters, but also we have no idea when this was filmed, probably many weeks ago.
Going to training working really hard and then going home and sulking every evening at home would be no good mentally, the mood has to be lightened here and there to regain focus and confidence.
Luke that’s fine I have no problem with disagreeing but don’t you think in todays football environment there are 2 many diversions from the main job which they are paid to do which is win games.
I accept your point about recording date.
I’m not sure you would have seen the greats from yesteryear releasing such stuff instead they probably would have visited a cancer ward or children’s hospital or donated time to a charity.
So one question we are all worried about the players mental well being.. who worries about the fans mental well-being?
Enjoyed the back and forth between you and Luke on this one (I’m siding with Luke but see your points).
The “greats from yesteryear”
- Blue Is The Colour.
Our greats were busy recording “pop” songs. Along with all the other clubs and nations that used to bring out cup final songs with the players singing, just before a massive game, when they should be focused and working hard.
I agree that some of the distractions for sponsorship purposes are not beneficial, but still need light hearted content.
Completely agree Andy, they have one main job and that is to perform in their role, like any of us who work. I always try and review things with context and when I compare me in my day job to the players in theirs a lot of similarities occur, when I was young and inexperienced I used to make loads of mistakes and never performed consistently, in my career I am now 8 years deep and think of myself as pretty reliable and a good performer......
I then compare a lot of our squad to that and think the same thing, they are young, they are inexperienced and are working in a huge organisation where the pressure is constantly on, it isn't acceptable to us as fans to not be competing for trophies and at least the top 4, BUT we have to all accept we are in a different phase of our club right now.
I have banged the drum all season that we will get some excellent results and performances and we will have some awful results and performances, I would imagine we will have worse results than Sunday and better performances than we have had already, in the remainder of this season.
As fans we are entitled to opinions, feelings and the right to be reactionary and let results get to us, that is what being a fan is about. The mental health of everybody is important and exactly the reason I step away for a couple of days after a bad performance or result, to review things in context!
Luke btw it was a good article, I'm 48 yrs into my work career not long to go now lol, I still make mistakes but thankfully rarely however I'd like to think these players will be quick learners but I'm still waiting. So ill leave it there thanks for the replies.
Mikel scored against Fulham, on my birthday, when I had him on the back of the white 13/14 kit. One of my favourite players of all time. (Makelele is one of the others, so says a lot about my favourite position 😂)
For me, one of the most iconic & special goals was Zola’s side/back flick from a corner against Norwich in ‘03

Love that mate, me too! I said on the podcast I featured in recently that I just love to watch holding midfielders play!
